About North Nomads

We don’t just show you Pakistan.
We take you home.

North Nomads was founded by Pakistanis who grew up between two worlds and fell completely in love with one of them.

Born in Pakistan. Built for the world.

I grew up in Pakistan and moved to the UK at the age of eight. For years, visits back home meant relatives, cities, and the familiar. Then in 2020 I stumbled across Fairy Meadows on YouTube: a meadow sitting beneath the world’s ninth highest mountain, barely known outside Pakistan. Something shifted.

I have now visited Fairy Meadows seven times. Four summers, three winters. Each trip completely different: different light, different snow, different silence. I have trekked to Rakaposhi Base Camp, explored Skardu, wandered through Hunza and Gilgit, crossed the Deosai Plateau, and completed multiple motorcycle tours through the northern areas. The more I saw, the more I understood that Pakistan’s mountains are world class. The world just does not know it yet.

I also saw how the industry was failing the people who did make it here. International operators were charging premium prices and quietly handing tours off to local subcontractors, sometimes three levels down, with the experience degrading at every step. Even local companies were outsourcing, marking up, and cutting corners. Travellers were paying serious money and getting a compromised version of a place that deserves so much better.

North Nomads was founded in 2024 to do the opposite. We operate every single trek directly: no middlemen, no subcontracting, no markup chains. Just our own team, on the ground, with the local knowledge and genuine relationships to make every trip exceptional. Pakistan deserves better representation on the global tourism stage. We are here to provide it.

Most operators talk about authenticity. We are built on it.

01

Direct Operations

We run every trek ourselves.
No subcontractors. No outsourcing. No third party taking a cut and delivering a fraction of the experience. When you book with North Nomads, you are dealing directly with the people who will be on the trail with you.
02

Deep Local Roots

Our team is from here.
Our guides and operations team have spent years travelling the northern areas by foot, by jeep, and by motorcycle. We have genuine personal relationships with communities across Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, Skardu, and beyond. That is not something you can buy or replicate.
03

Honest Pricing

Premium experience. Fair price.
Because we operate directly, we can offer exceptional quality at prices that do not include inflated middleman margins. You pay for the experience, not the chain of companies between you and it.
04

Pakistan First

We are advocates, not just operators.
We genuinely believe northern Pakistan is one of the most spectacular and underrated destinations on earth. We pay fair wages to local porters and staff, invest in the communities along our routes, and operate with leave-no-trace principles. When this region thrives, we all do.
Meet the team

The people behind your trek

We are not a corporation. We are a small, dedicated team of Pakistanis who are genuinely obsessed with these mountains.

Shawal

Founder & CEO
Born in Pakistan, raised in London. After a career spanning healthcare, investment banking, and telecoms, Shawal traded the corporate world for the mountains he had been drawn back to since he first discovered Fairy Meadows. He has returned seven times across all seasons, explored Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, and Deosai, and founded North Nomads in 2024 to give this region the global recognition it deserves.

Umair

Head of Operations
Born and raised in Pakistan, Umair has been exploring the northern areas since his teens. With two Master’s degrees and years of hands-on experience working across multiple operators in the region, he brings both the expertise and the local relationships that keep every North Nomads trek running seamlessly.

Bazaid

Trekking & Field Operations
Born and raised in Pakistan with an extensive personal history in the northern areas, Bazaid brings genuine first-hand knowledge of trails, terrain, and conditions that most guides simply do not have. Young, sharp, and deeply connected to the region, he is an outstanding presence on the trail.
